Ruth Alessi Walls

A Wonderful Life

We mourn the passing of our mom, Ruth Golden Alessi-Walls, a wonderful and gifted lady. She was born in Jasper, Georgia and grew up in East Point, graduating from Russell High School in 1941. She married Frank Aldo Alessi and they worked side-by-side in their many restaurants in and around Atlanta.

Ruth was an accomplished vocalist, being a regular soloist at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church and Beecher Hills Baptist Church. She also sang with the Atlanta Baptist Association Choir, the South Metro Community Chorus and the Tri City Civic Chorus. Ruth learned to paint and demonstrated her talents in many oil paintings of animals and nature. In the sixties, you would see Ruth at Aldo's Italian Restaurant, greeting guests and socializing with friends. She was an accomplished cook and baker, and hand-made all the wonderful desserts served at Aldo's.

Ruth had many friends with whom she loved to travel, dine, and socialize. She was very supportive of her family, all of whom she loved deeply. She also had room in her heart for numerous pets throughout the years, more recently Sweetie I ( a true terror!) and Sweetie II, ( a "real sweetie"). Ruth worked tirelessly for her churches in many capacities, giving her time and talents to further God's work.

Late in life, Ruth married Leroy Walls of Union City. Her Parkinson's disease cut short their time together, as she soon became unable to manage without personal care. In her final years, she was blessed to have wonderful caregivers, Patsy and Mary, who showed tremendous compassion and care.

After a full life, our mom died on October 8, 2014, the day before her 90th birthday, with her three children by her side and other family members close by. She was a devout Christian and we take comfort she is now with her Lord and Savior.

Ruth is survived by Carole Alessi of Smyrna, GA, Linda Alessi-Sienicki of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Dave Alessi of Jacksonville, FL. Grandchildren; Alisa Babb Rogers (Jack, A.J. and Jordan) of Marietta, GA; Angel Babb of Mableton, GA; Christina Alessi Hacker (Michael, Emily and Jenna) of Conway, AR; Lauren Alessi of Denver, CO; and Eric Alessi of Charlotte, NC.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, 736 South Central Avenue, Hapeville, Georgia 30354, with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel, with Reverend Darwin Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Over & Above Fund of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church, 1150 Jefferson Avenue, East Point, Georgia 30344.
