Rose Marie Clarke Hood of College Park, GA, age 98, passed away on May 16, 2022 in Fayetteville, GA. Rose was born in 1924 in College Park, GA and graduated from Richardson High School. On May 29, 1946, she married her husband of 71 years, (David) Pope Hood, with whom she shared three children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rose and Pope lived in Hapeville, GA, until 1984, when they moved to Fayetteville, GA, where they enjoyed retirement filled with many friendships. Prior to marriage, Rose pursued professional opportunities that left a lasting impact on her. Rose worked for Delta Air Lines as a reservations specialist in the mid-1940's, and she was a nursing student at Emory University.
In her free time, Rose shared her wide array of artistic gifts with those around her. As an active member at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Rose played the piano for her Sunday School class regularly and was a member of the United Methodist Women organization. She was also an award-winning China painter, winning many competitions at the Georgia National Fair for her depictions of flowers, birds and other nature scenes. For many years, she used her talents as a seamstress to create clothing for family and friends.
Rose had a deep love for God's creation - for the animals, plants and beauty He created. She felt especially at peace by the ocean in St. Augustine, FL, where she vacationed for much of her life, enjoying the warm weather and walks on the beach.
Most importantly, Rose was a wonderful example of a Christian woman: a firm believer in Jesus Christ and a disciple of the Lord.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbern R. Clarke and Rosalba Clarke (Spencer), by her beloved husband Pope, and by her siblings: Wilbern R. Clarke, Jr.; Robert S. Clarke; Charles R. Clarke; and Elizabeth Ann Muzio (Clarke).
Rose is survived by her loving children, Beth and Bill Cooper, Charlie and Dianne Hood, and Anna Hood; grandchildren Anna and Mark Workman, David and Jessica Cooper, Betsy and Matthew McKamey, Alana Hood, and Matthew Hood; six great-grandchildren; a sister in law, Josephine SciaScia Clarke; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 20th at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Dr. Thomas Martin officiating.
